Professor Parrino said that although 2008 was judged to be one of the worst financial years ever, 6,000 mergers and acquisitions were transacted across the United States that year, and 2,000 transactions of M&As were recorded in the Northeast. What drives merger demand? A strong economy, a robust debt market, a bull stock market, private equity demand and low interest rates.
